DIY
Not every plumbing issue needs a technician. Some common problems are straightforward enough for a homeowner to fix safely with basic tools. Below are the most common DIY-friendly plumbing fixes - along with clear signs that it's time to stop and call a professional instead.

Running toilet
Usually caused by a worn flapper valve inside the tank. Turn off the water supply valve behind the toilet, flush to empty the tank, and replace the flapper. Kits cost around $5–$10 at any hardware store and take about 15 minutes. If the toilet still runs after replacing the flapper, the fill valve may need replacing - still a DIY job, but call us if you're unsure.

Slow draining sink
Before calling a plumber, try a drain snake or zip-it tool to pull out hair and debris from the drain. Avoid chemical drain cleaners - they damage pipes over time and rarely clear deep clogs. If snaking doesn't clear it, the clog may be deeper in the line and needs professional equipment.

Dripping faucet
A worn washer or O-ring is usually the cause. Turn off the water supply valves under the sink, disassemble the faucet handle, and replace the washer. Take the old washer to the hardware store to match the size exactly. If the drip continues after replacing the washer, the valve seat may be damaged - that's a job for a plumber.
